After extensive research into products suitable for an aerated wastewater treatment system (AWTS) we have discovered that the best balance is achieved by generally avoiding anti-bacterial products however when they or any other cleaning product is used to use them as sparingly as possible.

All AWTS's are a living process. They rely on bacteria to breakdown and digest the effluent, so a healthy AWTS has lots of healthy bacteria. If you use strong cleaning products regularly such as the ones listed below, you will reduce or completely destroy the bacteria in your system. This may result in one of the following; strong odours or untreated effluent on the surface creating a possible health hazard for you and others.

Cleaners that should be avoided in an AWTS

1. Antibacterial Solutions

2. Bleaches

3. Any chlorine based product

4. Mould killing products

5. Caustic oven cleaners
